Welcome Updates Research Jobs Molecular Genetics Lab About Us The Molecular Genetics Laboratory (MGL) is dedicated to understanding the genetic and molecular basis of neuropsychiatric disorders. Our mission is to advance mental health and neurological care through innovative research, education, and clinical services. Located in Bangalore, India, MGL is part of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), which has been at the forefront of mental health and neuroscience research for decades. Our team comprises esteemed scientists, clinicians, and researchers committed to translating scientific discoveries into clinical applications. We focus on unraveling the complexities of brain function and behavior to improve patient outcomes and contribute to global knowledge in psychiatric genetics. Introduction New at MGL Welcome to our incoming Ph.D. batch of 2024! (L-R) Deepankan, Shrinkhala, Pannaga (Not pictured) Rashmi Celebrating 25 years of MGL and Dr Meera! New publication alert! Exploring the genetics of lithium response in bipolar disorders Dr Suhas G awarded 2024 Society of Biological Psychiatry Travel Fellowship Award Dr Bhagyalakshmi MS awarded the 2024 WFSBP Young Investigator Award New publication alert! Altered neuroepithelial morphogenesis and migration defects in iPSC-derived cerebral organoids and 2D neural stem cells in familial bipolar disorder Welcome to our incoming Ph.D. batch of 2023! (L-R) Akshaya, Mythri, Lakshana, Srividya Our Research At MGL, our research spans a wide range of areas, focusing on the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric conditions such as schizophrenia, dementia, OCD, alcoholism, spino-cerebellar ataxia and muscular dystrophy. Our multidisciplinary approach combines clinical insights with advanced genetic methods, supported by national and international funding agencies. We collaborate with leading global institutions to enhance our research impact and develop new therapeutic strategies. Read More Do you want to participate in our research? • Participate in our research @ MGL NIMHANS

Participate in Our Research Be a part of our groundbreaking research initiatives by volunteering! Our research delves into understanding the complexities behind severe psychiatric illnesses. Our studies may involve - non-invasive methods like EEG recordings, where sensors are placed on the scalp to capture brainwave activity MRI brain scans simple measurements of button-press responses or eye movements blood sample which will be used for genetic and stem cell studies For more information about which studies are currently recruiting volunteers, click the project names to read about the work and go through the hyperlinked information & consent forms listed below. If you are eager to participate as a research volunteer, click the project you wish to volunteer for and fill out the Google form. Once registered, we will reach out to you when a suitable study becomes available. Your involvement plays a crucial role in advancing our understanding of the human brain, and we welcome you to be a part of our exciting journey in pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration. Who can volunteer? Unaffected Volunteers PARAM ENIGMA Anyone who has not been diagnosed with a severe mental illness, nor have any of their immediate family members. Anyone without major/severe development delays who can sit through a neuropsychology assessment and answer questions would be eligible for our assessments. Healthy elders, persons with Alzheimer’s dementia, and persons with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI—a stage between normal cognitive functioning and dementia)
